So there is no firewall in between your EV Server and the Client?

My system is in our company network,
we are using Symantec Endpoitn Protection.

i have another system with same configuration, same mail box , but using oulook 2003 SP3 client.
for that machine everythign works fine.

Can you try to shutdown SEP and any other Firewall which might be running on this system?
I suspect that SEP or something other is blocking the communication.

Because when you go into "Outlook Anywhere" RPC/HTTP mode, the EV Client will communicate via HTTP, too, and in normal mode, it communicates using DCOM, which can get blocked by personal firewalls.

I disabled SEP and tried to archive an email.
But still the same error shows.

Do you get any dcom errors on the ev server in the system event log? If you double click the archived item does it work open ok? Can you restore via archive explorer or search ok? You say that this only happens in 2002. So you log the same user on another pc with 2003 and it works, correct.

A lot of the time this type of error is DNS related so ensure all of your DNS records/aliases are set correctly. There is also MS tool out there where you can test a DCOM connection as well to see if that is a cause but cannot for the life of me remember what it is called
