Hi there,

You will have to upgrade to version 11 first, then to 12. You will need to migrate to Windows Server 2012 as well before you upgrade to EV 12.

Have a look on these articles:

Supported upgrade path: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100023744

Migration wizard: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100038733.html

SQL databases migration: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100016654.html

If you have never done this I suggest you engage a trained consultant.

When it comes to vault stores migration to EMC ECS, you should look at 3rd-party tools from TransVault, Quatro-tech or Globanet.

So it is mandatory to use 3rd party to migrate my EV vault from on prime to EMC ECS ??

or we can do it without any 3rd party tool ?

I think we can use the below link to enabke EMC ECS to shown as storage type in EV then move the EV store please confirm this point ??

Here also how we can move the EV store location

please confirm this will be applicable

Hello,

I believe the problem lies in the different way of storing the data. SAN is storing files (dvs, dvssc etc), where EMC is storing 'blobs'. It is impossible to copy the files to blobs (afaik).

The only 'cheap' option is to create a new Vault Store, and a new partition, which uses the EMC storage. Then use the EV move archive function to move the archive from old to new.

However. You end up with a working and active copy of the old archive, but the old archive is NOT deleted. That can be done manually, but places a load on SQL and SAN Storage, and can take a while.

I agree with Virgil, you need to look at 3rd party tooling to perform the migration.

Regards. Gertjan

Very well pointed, Gertjan.

Migrating from Centera to ECS can be done using ECS Sync, a standalone java application provided by EMC.

To migrate from SAN storage to EMC ECS, you have the 2 options Gertjan mentioned:

1. EV native Move archive feature - this may not be feasible if your data size is very large

2. 3rd party tools such as TransVault or other names I mentioned in my previous post

Hope this helps.

Can we export the archives as a pst files then move this pst files to EMC Elastic cloud then re attached to Enterprise vault .?

Hi,

first consider going to 11.0.1 before upgrading to 12.

Yes you can export (an later import them) all data to PSTs, but this way will take a considerable amount of time, depending on you environment.

Third party migration would be the easiest way.
