EV7 SP2 or EV 2007

Hello Folks

We are currently running EV6 SP2 with two backend Exchange 2003 servers, one Exchange 2003 Front End Server and one EV Server.

We will be looking to upgrade our version of Enterprise Vault as soon as we have built a suitable test enviroment - our old test domain was runing on VMWare hosted on a PC and has just about died a slow lingering death.

My question is as both of the above products will be available before we are in a position to go ahead with testing which should we choose, what is the difference ?

Maybe we will move to Exchange 2007 late this year or early next year.

Our primary aim is to get some reporting of what is happening in Enterprise Vault as our vault continue to grow at an alarming rate and although our SAN storage is cheap enough the vault size is becoming unmanagable in terms of backup and DR.

One suggestion I do have, regarding your backups, is as your vault stores grow to create new storage partitions and close the old ones.
 
What we do is once the partitions grow to beyond 60 GBs, we close that partition and open a new one. We'll backup the old partition one final time and then remove it from the back up schedule. When the old partition is closed it is still accessible but it's no longer being written to so there is no need to back it up. The new partition will then be added to the backup schedule until such time as that one grows to beyond 60 GB and the process repeats itself.
 
This will at least keep your backups down to a manageable size.
 
Regarding your upgrades please keep in mind the OWA for Exchange 2007 is not yet supported in any version of Evault so if this is an important requirement for you it would be best to stick to Exchange 2003 for now.

Thanks for the reply - we are already using paritions - we close the old one and open a new one every quarter but by the end of that quarter the backup is still taking 10hours plus and we are only backing uip the partition that is cureently open.

I am reading that EV 2007 supports OWA 2007. EV 2007 is supposed to be released July 8th.
