Error Installing EV8 SP4 in Lab

Hello,

I am attempting to setup an EV8 SP4 lab to prepare for an upgrade to EV9 SP3.  I ran Deployment Scanner on the EV computer and the checks passed.  When I attempt to install EV I receive, "Error checking installed version of required software. Check evinstall.log in your temp folder for more information."  No evinstall.log exists in the temp folder. Note:  I am attempting to install on a virtual machine (vmware).

Thanks!!

sounds like its possibly a WMI issue?
You are installing as the evadmin you set up for yourself right and they're a local admin on the machine?

Hi,

Yep I am installing as the EV service account and the service account is a member of the local admin group.  It is a strange message...haven't seen this one before.  Hopefully something real simple smiley

Thank you.

just as a matter of interest, if you right click the setup.exe and do a Run As Administrator, does it work?

I ran setup.exe as the local Administrator account but received the same error.

Thanks again.

Error

"Error checking installed version of required software."

Cause

The cause is the C++redistributable files installed on the Server are not the correct version for Enterprise Vault (EV)

Solution

In Add/Remove programs , uninstall the  C++ redistributable files - If this is not possible due to the process requiring the original install files

then download from Microsoft, the free windows Installer cleanup tool and remove the C++ using that tool.

Then, using the Vault account, load the Enterprise Vault binaries which will install the correct version of C++ redistributable.

After banging my head against it long enough I just rebuilt the box from scratch; I'm curious to see if the uninstallation of the C++ binaries did the trick.  For future reference, of course.  Did it?
