Policy nesting and archivepoints

We've started archiving our fileserver some time ago, but now there's a request to exclude a sub-folder from being archived.

I've created a exclusion policy with a do not archive rule and added the folder to be excluded to the list of folders to be archived on a specific volume.

Will this new policy overrule the policy that does allow archiving?

\\server\F$\groupdata (archiving policy)
\\server\F$\groupdata\subfolder\folder2beexcluded (do not archive policy)

Do I need to create a new archivepoint for the new folder also? If so, do I need to share this subfolder, or can I use deepfoldermapping? Now groupdata is the share. So can I configure "\\server\groupdata\subfolder\folder2beexcluded" as the archivepoint?

Your folder policy will override the volume policy. The setup you showed will work.

There is no need to create a archivepoint for that folder or a share.

Thanks Paul.

The folder policy will override the volume policy, but in this case the folder policy on the subfolder needs to override the folder policy on the root folder also.

The volume policy is set to F$
The folder policies are set to \\server\f$\groupdata and \\server\f$\groupdata\subfolder

I did a test in reportmode, and it looks like it's working.

Gotcha, yes, you can have folder policies on subfolders of a folder that already has one and it will use the one assigned to it.
