Once you have everything restored you can remove the FSA Tasks.

Problem

Use cases for restoring archived content with FSAUtility

Solution

FSAUtility can be used to perform a mass restore of archived items back to the original location on file server using the –t switch. This is useful when restoring the entire content of folders including sub-folders or when a particular file type has been archived incorrectly and needs to be restored while changes are made to the Archiving Policy Rule to exclude the specific file type.

FSAUtility –t can also be used to restore archived files to a redirected location using the –d switch to define the destination.

Ø  Below are some examples of different uses of the FSAUtility –t command:

·         The following command would restore Microsoft Office Word and Excel files in the folder \\servername1\users

FSAUtility –t –s \\servername1\users -e *.doc, *.xls

·         To perform the same command and also create a log file that lists both successful and failed operation use the ‘–l 0’ switch

FSAUtility –t –s \\servername1\users -e *.doc, *.xls -l 0

·         The following command would restore all the files from \\servername1\users to a redirected location

FSAUtility –t –s \\servername1\users -d \\servername2\users

FSA Utility is certianly the most appropriate. there is also a differnce between recalling and restoring. I would make sure to read the utilities guide pretty closely related to that.

Another possibility is to ensure you are logged in as an administrator on the file server or share and that you have the bypassrecalllimitsforadmins reg key in place (look at the reg guide accompanying your media if you are unsure what I am talking about). From there you can search within the content of the files, copy the files, or write a script that does a copy to null.... these are all methods to get the content back.

That said, FSA utility is the SYMC provided utiilty to perform this operation.
