IPM.appointments are calendar items right? As long as that's checked you're fine Then depending on the policy, recurring appointments may not get archived and non expired calendar items won't be archived Also remember EV does not replace calendar items with shortcuts, it basically copies them, it does however remove attachments and puts links in the body of the item But an archived email will have the EV archived shortcut but appointments and calendar items will look like regular appointment items

The best way to tell if it has been archived is to use Outlook Spy, MDBVU32, EV Item Information, or other such tools to look at the message properties.

Calendar items are definitely eligible for archiving. The change is that we no longer convert items into a standard EV shortcut as that would mean that the calendar item no longer behaves as a calendar item in Outlook

When calendar items are archived the item still appears to be the same, but if it has attachments then they are stripped from the Outlook copy and retained in the archive instead. There is a policy setting in Policies > Exchange > Mailbox > policy > Advanced which controls the stripping behaviour (Strip attachments to non-shortcut items)

Note that calendar items that occur in the future or have not expired (recurring appointments) are not archived by default. Policy settings also apply for handling those items.

I agree with all of you. To confirm if they are archived, you can just search them and check them in Archive explorer, if you find them there, then no issue with archiving. But if you dont, then try using Rob's suggestions.

Just to recap what others said, EV performs archiving on calander/meeting request items from mailbox but does not create shortuct however it strip attachment from calendar if present. Calander/meeting request looks same like normal calender without (archive form, no icon ).

The best way to identify if calender is archive is to verify via archive explorer, OR you can select calander item and then press "shift+ctrl + click on ANY of EV option" from toolbar if you get "selected item properies" with saveset id then it confirms that items is archived.

These calander items are also eligible for deletion as well (shortcut expiry).

There may be possiblites that items are  NOT archive due to age creteria spefied in mailbox policy doest met.

If you still feel the calanders are not archive then take dtrace on Archving task and peform runnow archiving against affected user (if you need steps then let us know).
