When EV FSA archives files, the archived version of the file gets the same permission as the folder that contained the original file. If there's a file with different permissions than the folder it's in, the archived version will have the folder permissions and the shortcut will have the same permission as the file.

In the FSA policy settings you can choose how it deals with files that have explicit permissions.

1. ignore them - EV will not archive files that have explicit permissions

2. archive them - EV will archive files that have explicit permissions

How are these being accessed? From windows explorer via the placeholder shortcut or via the Web Search / Archive Explorer?

Assuming some users can access the file from windows explorer where others cannot, it would imply a permissions issue within the file system.

If you would have said PDF only ... and you'd have said Acrobat 10 was installed....  but you're saying .DOC files too?

No client tracing on FSA, only on email archiving clients

Maybe the users are trying to copy several files at once? This then would trigger the recall limit which will result in access denied errors. Generally speaking this limit prevents mass recalls from e.g. EV software. But this also applies to every other process or user which copies a larger number of files in a short timespan.

Have a look at this technote: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH47861
