Hello,

We're receiving this message when trying to open the "Archive Explorer" in Outlook.

"Search Safes" however works..

We're using Outlook 2003 SP3 with the EV 9.02 Outlook  Add-in. The EV server is on version 9.02.

We had this problem on version 8.04 as well and I hoped an upgrade to version 9.02 would also fix this problem.. But saddely it didn't...

I already tried the following:

1. EVresetClient.exe on the client.

2. Checked the Directory security of EnterpriseVault in IIS on the EV Server.

3. IISreset on the EV Server.

4. Registered the scrrun.dll (C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll) on the EV Server.

5. Restarted the SQL service on the SQL server.

Nothing helped so far, so now: Please help!

Yes I tried that (point 4). but it didn't help..

I also tried to reregister the scrrun.dll under C:\Windows\SysWOW64 as the server is Windows 2008.

In addition, what is the error?  And where do you get it?  Are you clicking on the AE button in Outlook, on a client?  If so.. do you have a client trace, and, screenshots?

When I try to access Archive Explorer via the AE button in Outlook on a client I get the error: "XML returned for tree view is not as expected (500)".

I attached the error (it's in Dutch).

I get the same error when I open in IE from my client.

Can you get a trace of W3WP and Directory Service when reproducing the error?

Is this "only" mailbox archiving, or is this FSA/Sharepoint etc?

Have you never done DTRACE before with Enterprise Vault?

Essentially you :-

a/ Login to the EV Server

b/ Go to a DOS command prompt

c/ Navigate through to the EV program folder

d/ Launch DTRACE, by you know, just typing it

e/ Do : SET DirectoryService V

f/ Do : SET W3WP V

g/ Do: Log some-name-of-log-file.log

h// Then on the client reproduce the issue, preferably as quickly as possible and/or do this out of hours when there is "least" interference from other EV activity as the DTRACE can't distinguish your test from all the stuff it's doing normally.

i/  When you've reproduced the issue, go back to the server, which is still at the DTRACE prompt, and type LOG (that'll stop the logging)

j) Type: EXIT (That'll take you back to the DOS window)

If you haven't done it before it can sometimes take a trial and error or two.  So once you think you're done, open the resulting log file from Windows Explorer, and browse around it, see what you've got in there, apart from the headings, and all the registry information.  You should have a bunch of diagnostic trace lines.

I'm sure there are technotes on doing it too...  and here is an article that a former colleague wrote :

I had the same problem about 6 months ago.  I ended up doing a server rebuild, but wouldn't recommed you go that route unless you've done it more than a few times.

There is a really good troubleshooting process detailed here by JesusWept about 1/2 way though the post.  It might help:

Hmmm I ran DTrace several time buit I don't see something wrong. Maybe one of you can make something out of the logs. WinHTTPTrace is suiteble for Windows 2008.. I couldn't get DebugDiag running..

hmm, I can't work out what I'm seeing and what I'm not on my environment at the moment .. I think my only suggestion at the moment is to log a call with Support, and they can assist via Webex etc.

i'll see if I can calm my environment down enough to see what's happening, but at the moment, I can't capture a good trace to compare yours with.
