All,
I am trying to 'unarchive' 800 emails so that i can send them to a client. I have been told by my it help desk that the only way to do this is to open each email individually (thus unarchiving it) and 'save as...' an outlook message file'. Unfortunatly this is going to take days and and it is days i don't have. I don't believe that there isn't a way to unarchive multiple emails at once...can anybody help?
Any advice/help will be much appreciated!
Cheers,
James, UK

If you have Discovery Accelerator you can do a search for that user as a sender and then export the results from there.
If you do not have DA then you will have to use the EV Search page. i would recommend the advanced page.
http://evserver/enterprisevault/search.asp?advance... You will need to make sure that your search page is set up to allow export to PST. The caveat is that the search page is not designed to be an enterprise level search tool, so depending on the volume of mail you have for this user it could take some time.

Opening an email, doesn't in itself "unarchive" an email, it just retrieves it from the archive. Temporary step. It doesn't overwrite anything back in Exchange, just a visual of the archived item. You can do "File -> Save As", and store it in a folder as an MSG file, and repeat for 799 mails. Cumbersome if you ask me, because you have to also be aware of the naming of each MSG file.
Restoring it from the archive, using the "Restore from Vault" button in Outlook, retrieves the message from the archive and overwrites the item in Exchange, returning it to a normal message ... you can then drag and drop that item and the 799 others to a PST file. *Restoring From Vault* also doesn't unarchive an email, the item will still exist in the archive.
Another option would be to use Outlook search tools, assuming the shortcuts still exist for the 800 items, and find the items.. drag and drop a COPY of them to a specific, new, folder. Then go in to that folder highlight all 800 of them, and do a "Restore from Vault". You can then drag and drop that folder to a PST file.
Then you get into the expensive world of Discovery Accelerator... and the free-world of Browser Search, as Tony has mentioned.

Hi,
You can ask from your IT dept to export all your archived items to a PST file, give it to you, mount it to your Outlook and delete all the items you do not want or move to another folder all mails that you are interested in. Another way to do it is by searching for those items using the browser searce option, put them in a basket and then restore all of them to an alternate location inside your mailbox and then move them to a PST file.
