2.5.3 Upgrade on 5220's

DMF-UK

Hi,

We've upgraded quiet afew 5220's to 2.5.3 in the last week and have noticed an issue with the BBU status.  All upgrades completed fine and appliances have been re-started several times, backup are working, however when running Monitor>Hardware Adapter we have an issue with the Intel RS2PI008 RAID controller cards (Can't pull the information directly from the appliance as its a secure site)

Adapter Model  Adapter Status  BBU Learn  Charge  Charging Status  Volt  Temp  Manufacturing Date     State      Acknowledge

                                              cycle active

Intel Raid            OK                 No              60%         NONE             OK  OK     May 16, 2011              FAILED        NO

Controller

RS2PI008

The RS2PI008 controller is only in afew of the bigger appliances, as this is for an additional shelf.  The other RAID controller card SROMBSASMP2 is fine.  All of the RAID write policies are set to WriteBack and the status is OK for each.

Has anyone else got this issue? Not sure if it is an actual issue, but the BBU status and charge level hasn't changed since the upgrade to 2.5.3 which is now over 72 hours ago.

Any help much appreciated

The BBU status check has been enhanced in 2.5.3 - it is in the release notes:

From the new features section:

The battery backup (BBU) monitoring logic has been enhanced to alert you
and Symantec AutoSupport of when it is time to replace the battery. Previously,
the logic monitored the relative charge of BBU. With this enhancement, the
logic monitors the absolute charge of the BBU to more accurately predict the
life of the battery. In addition, the monitoring logic detects when the absolute
charge drops to 65% or less. That is the point at which performance may
degrade. To avoid this situation, the BBU monitoring sends an alert to you and
Symantec AutoSupport when the absolute charge reaches 67%. That early
notification provides you with enough time to replace the BBU before
performance is affected.

Hi DMF-UK,

I hope you have got it resolved by now. I'm wondering if you end up replacing the BBU?

**Update**

Replaced the BBU which has resolved the issue.  Strange how only 2.5.3 was reporting the issue and not 2.5.2.
