Backing up Zips files? what is an efficient size for a zip file

Netbackup MASTER/MEDIA server windows 2012 R2 -  NBU version 8.1.1..  Tapelibrary is a quantum I500 LT06 (total of 6 drives)

We have a request to backup a large amount of small files to tape..  So we had one of our developers write a powershell script to chunk the small files into zips files - like 100MB a chunk (zip).   Im curious to know if there is an efficient size for backing up zip files for netbackup...  Backing up the zip files will definitly be the faster way Im thinking then to just backup up a bunch of small files such as text / tiff files etc... Please advise if anybody has any recommendations or suggestions on what the size of a zip file should be to keep this task efficient and fast.

Thanks

another words is it better (efficient) to backup less files that are larger in size or more zip files that are smaller in size..

Most efficient would be 1 large file.
