Best Way to configure FLASH BACKUP

Hi All,

Requirement: I need to configure a Flash back as we identified lot of small files in c drive around 48 lakhs files in 115 GB. I know that we will not able to take Flash backup for C drive. So, we are going to add a Local \SAN drive to move the small files folder to another drive.

Environment Details:

Master & Media Server: Windows 2008 with 7.5.0.4 Version.

Client we need to takebackup is Windows 2003 server.

What is the best way to configure the Flash backup or any other ideas may be helpful.

Full details can be found in NBU Snapshot Client Admin Guide .

See Configuring a FlashBackup policy in Chapter 4.

When Policy Type 'FlashBackup-Windows' is selected,  the 'Perform snapshot backups' will automatically be selected.

If you look in 'Options...', the snapshot method will probably set to Auto, which means that NBU will choose snapshot method, which will most likely be VSS. (You may want to explicitely select it...)
Note that space to create a snapshot is needed on another drive letter.
Ensure that bpfis log exists to troubleshoot possible snapshot issues.

W2003 is known for VSS problems - ensure that you have latest Microsoft hotfixes for VSS installed.

Keep the drive you are adding so that it can grow dynamically as you dont want it much bigger than the data held on it as FlashBackup backs up the whole drive

After that you need the Enterprise client license and just make a policy of type Windows-Flashbackup and add the new drive letter to it in the form \\.\E

Everything else as per normal in the policy

Hope this helps

Hi Mark, Thank you very much, I need few more clarification. 1. Whether we need to change anything in Snapshot Client option? 2. Whether we need to change anything in Schedule Tab Attributes? If we select Policy Type : Flashbackup-Windows by default it will take Flash back of the drive as mentioned in BackSelection. \\. \E

No additional setting is needed. Just create FlashBackup-Windows policy with raw partition backup selections like \\.\E.
