Backup up a filer server with a lot of small size files

We have just installed the Netbackup 6.5.2a. But it is take over 60 hours to backup our fileserver, and the old backup system (backup exec) work fine with the backup of the fileserver. (about 10 hours) Do you have some ideas to why there is so big a difference between the two systems? We have added the Veritas Snapshot on the client, and enable windows open file backups for this client on the master server. But it still really slow (max 6000 k/sec). So we like some ideas how to fix this.

Hello,

Do you have the file server patched and updated?  There are some key fixes to VSS in SP2 for Windows 2003.

Yes the filer server is running 2003 with SP 2 on it, so this should not be the problem.

Netbackup is bad with a lot of small files, thats why they get PureDisk and FlashBakup Option if you dont have this you can also try a NDMP backup, wich is your last resource because in case of restore you will need to restore the all filer, but there is not much you can do, maybe checking your media server buffers can help, but is a known issue who is never been fix under the Netbackup code.

Sorry, regards.
