C drive is almost full with db/images. How to change veritas location from C now?

Hello Experts,

I had a Windows master server where in it has C drive and D drive. Veritas is in C drive and backup images from /netbackup/db/images is 240 GB. C drive capacity is only 245 GB. I had some considerable amount of space in D drive though it is using for Staging the backup images. So I am thinking of moving Veritas from C to D now.

1st Option) I checked that client images can be moved locally to D drive from C drive. But I had nearly 100 clients and so movement of 100 clinets as per below link is not a good idea to me. So my question here is that is there any way to move all client backup images from db/images to D drive?? If yes, then I dont need 2nd Option.

2nd Option) Now, suggest me any other option. I am thinking of moving veritas installation from C to D. I know its a stupid question. But still I a checking is there any such option of moving installation files of Veritas from C to D and run the show?

3rd Option) If 2nd is not possible, do I have to uninstall Veritas from C now and install as new in D drive? If yes, please clearly mention the steps. I know I need a full catalog backup and whats next?

You cannot move the installation from C: to D: ....  in a nutshell, it will fail.

One reason being the loacation of the DB is actally in the EMM DB.

How about archiving the catalog ?

That is, backup the big bits of the catalog to tape, then delete them.

If I do an archive then I have to get catalog info loaded back to catalog location from tapes to look for image availability. Right? I mean to ask if any user needs a restore some 4 months back, I have to copy the data from tape to catalog location (disk) and then proceed for restore. Right?

If this is the case, I dont think my management will approve this. Hmm.. I really dont know how come without any proper analysation it was installed on C drive. We had retention policy of just 6 months for a month backup. I am wondering how these things will be managed if retention is 1 year. LOL.

Quite a lengthy process that must be followed to the letter... Especially point 1:

1. Perform a full Hot Catalog Backup prior to making any changes.

The easiest way around this is to just move the db directory to another drive (preferably a large one with the facility to be expanded in the future if needs be)

Thanks Marianne. Seems the info you provided me would be a saver. NBU version is 6.5.6 (which is greater than 6.5.2). So I am checking the link and trying to implement now on other drive which had some enough space other than C drive.

Hey Experts, I was just curious and was comapring Mark TN with this one http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH135546. When should we use this TN, just want to know the need of this TN where we have to do lot of manual work, alt path for all the clients!!? The TN provided by Mark is simple and does the same thing I guess?

The tech note you refer to allows you to just move clients images one at a time - perhaps useful if you have one particularly large client (or at least one with a lot of files and a long retention)

If you wanted to follow that for all clients it would be a lot of hard work

If you just need to move the whole thing to another drive and be done with it then follow the easy method in the tech note I linked to

It works well and is quick and simple - done it many times
