Can we take backup of Mailboxes without Granular backup facility

Environment

NBU Server = 6.5.5

OS = win2003

I was using NBU Server 6.5.0 and taking backup of Information Store and Mailboxes individually. After upgrading NBU Server to 6.5.5, i have an option to take Granular backup which is a single backup offers to restore Information Store and Mailboxes from the single backup and no need to take backup individually for Information Store and Mailboxes like in NBU Server6.5.0.

But the problem is we have to upgrade our OS of NBU Server 6.5.5 to win2003R2 from simple win2003 Server because there is a service name NFS Service which required for Mailboxes restore present in win2003 R2 and we cant find this service in simple win2003 ADD/REMOVE program.

My client is not ready to upgrade OS of NBU Server from simple win2003 to win2003R2. So is that possible that we can take individual backup of Mailboxes as we take backup in NBU 6.5.0

The NFS services for Windows 2003 can be downloaded from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=896c9688-601b-44f1-81a4-02878ff11778&Dis...

You can use this package to setup the Client for NFS services on a Windows 2003 server.

Alternately, you might want to consider upgrading to R2, it's a rather straightforward upgrade if you have the media available. I've done it myself to enable granular backups for MS Exchange.

In addition to that, if you want to take mailbox backups but not utilize granular technology, you can use the MAPI mailbox backups as explained in the Exchange Admin guide (page 24) located here:

Hope this helps!

Is that same which we use in NBU Server 6.5 to take the backup of Mailboxes.

It's not granular backups using GRT technology, instead NBU uses MAPI to enumerate and backup the mailboxes within Exchange. It works but it is extremely slow.
