Cannot configure the drive path

Hi Symantec Guys,

Hope you can help me out on this matter. I'm still new with Netbackup and still trying to figure out on this. :(

Tape drives are all down. See input below:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpconfig -d
Id  DriveName           Type   Residence
      SCSI coordinates/Path                                            Status
****************************************************************************
0   jim-nas01Ultrium5... hcart2 TLD(6)  DRIVE=2
      MISSING_PATH:{5,0,1,0}:CZJ1291816                                UP
2   jim-nas01Ultrium5... hcart2 Standalone
      {4,7,0,0}                                                        UP
3   jim-nas01Ultrium5... hcart2 TLD(6)  DRIVE=3
      MISSING_PATH:{5,0,2,0}:CZJ1291817                                UP
4   jim-nas01Ultrium5... hcart2 TLD(6)  DRIVE=4
      MISSING_PATH:{5,0,3,0}:CZJ1291818                                UP

Currently defined robotics are:
  TLD(6)     SCSI coordinates = MISSING_PATH:CZJ129182Z

However, I have tried to connect the drive using the iSCSI connector (which we always do) but unfortunately it is still displaying missing drive path. But when I check on the GUI, drive paths are displaying green but status is still DOWN.

How should I go about it?

Hope to hear from you the soonest.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly - check Device Compatibility List to see if your robot and tape drives are supported via iSCSI:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76495

Check OS Event Viewer System logs for errors. You need to find the reason for the OS losing connectivity to devices.

If your devices are supported, check that OS can see devices - delete robot and tape drives in OS Device Manager, then perform a rescan.

If OS can see devices, run 'scan' from cmd - command is in ...\veritas\volmgr\bin.

If devices are all present in scan command, delete devices from NBU and run Device Config wizard again.

If your master/media server is W2003, verify that Removable Storage Service is stopped and disabled.

A follow-up to Mariannes fine post:

MISSING_PATH:{5,0,1,0}:CZJ1291816

Meaning - Tapedrive with serial number CZJ1291816  is nowhere to be found. Other drives may exist - but the serial number does not match.

Hi Marianne,

I've checked the Device Manager and now its showing only 1 tape drive which is the Standalone tape drive but when I run the tpconfig -dl, here's what it shows

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpconfig -dl

Currently defined drives and robots are:

        Drive Name              jim-nas01Ultrium5-SCSICZJ1291816000
        Index                   0
        SCSI coordinates        MISSING_PATH:{5,0,1,0}:CZJ1291816
        Type                    hcart2
        Status                  UP
        SCSI Protection         SR (Global)
        Shared Access           No
        TLD(6) Definition DRIVE=2
        Serial Number           CZJ1291816

Currently defined robotics are:
  TLD(6)     SCSI coordinates = MISSING_PATH:CZJ129182Z

EMM Server = dc-bck01.deg.aus

But in GUI, all green but status is still down. And I have notice that Drive 1 got missing. By the way, this is a Media Server that has VTL and 1 standalone device. OS is Windows 2008.

Delete the drive and run the device confgihuration wizard.

You may need to reboot the the master/media server first.
