Depending on the os you are using, either /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps or C:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\Bin\bpps
To start, for *NIX '/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup start' without the ''. Or C:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\Bin\bpup -f -v
To stop, change 'netbackup start' to 'netbackup stop' and 'bpup' to 'bpdown'.

Log onto the client host and run the bpps -x command and look at the output.
Non-Windows - /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps -x
Windows - C:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\bin\bpps
As @L_BR stated before, you can always run the "start" for netbackup on the client host without any real issue.
