Correcting Media IDs with non-expired images on tape

Hello,

At some point our barcode rules were incorrect so we wound up with a lot of tapes incorrectly labeled.

We have since corrected that issue and any tape that was still in the scratch pool has also been corrected.

However we had 18 tapes get used, and are trying to find out if there is anyway to correct this as some have 7 year retention on them.

Looking through the forums/Symantec Support/Google, it looks like there is no way to correct the label without expiring the images on the tape, so we were looking at duplicating the data to another tape so we can then expire the incorrectly labeled tapes.

Problem we're running in to is the duplicate jobs seem to be suggesting they'll take 2000+ hours to complete. Which wouldn't work for us as we can't have drives tied up for days on end. To add the problem the jobs have also failed while we're running them.

These are Multiplexed tapes so I'm thinking this is causing most of the slowness issue.

We don't have Vault so we can't do a tape duplication, just an image duplication.

Is there a better method to do this? Or perhaps certain options people have tried running in the past that have made the duplication run quicker?
