I install NetBackup 6.0 in a Windows server 2003 r2 std.

and Install veritas device driver for IBM 3580 TD3.

I have problem while try to configure the Storage Device there is a

Device

IBM 3573-TL state = Unconfigured.

IBM ULT3580-TD3  state = Configure.

I click next, next... and finish

When I create a policy and click manual backup to run policy the job is status failed with message No media avaliable.

I try to setup the Configure Volume , after the welcome screen I only see the server name but I can't click next for continue , Maybe this cause problem.

So I open Windows Device Manager and see the "Unknown Changer"

Is this normally or I have to download the Veritas Device Driver ?

What I should do ?

PS. I downloaded the driver from http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/287850.htm but still not work.

"Unknown Medium Changer" is a generic default MS uses when defining robots.  Unless you have a specific driver for the robot, this is okay.

Can you inventory the robot?

Thanks for your help.

Tomorrow I'll check the Tape Drive that it is LTO2 or LTO3.

I configured the storage device and in the Robot show the name of hardware but it can't inventory by NetBackup 6.0 for Win.

I used to work with Backup Exec, I know that some of the Tape Library can't config the slot , just load media in drive slot and take backup job and eject ,.... until last slot. maybe this Tape drive be the same.

Try uninstalling the Veritas driver and installing the driver supplied by the vendor for both your library changer and the drives.  You can then test communication with the library with a Veritas utility called robtest (installed with NetBackup).

I unistall the Veritas Device driver and download TS 3100 driver from IBM

no the Unknown Changer is changed to IBM TotalStorage 3573 Tape Library

I will try to config the Storage Device Configuration in NetBackup again.

Check that the media type matches what you set for the library tape drives... e.g. if you set the tape drives to HCART3 then you must set the media to HCART3.  NetBackup won't allow you to load media of type HCART1 into a drive configured as HCART2.

You can check the media tape type under media management (you might need to add the media type column)

have you talked to IBM?

why I ask..

I have TS3310  and I could not get the robot to work on my AIX box intil I had installed the "A Tape" driver on my unix box.

I just wonder if there is something like that, that you need for the windows box?

We got a TS3100 to muck around with, but it wouldn't work until the firmware was patched.  Ours currently says:

Library:

Product ID:   3753-TL

Currently Installed Library Firmware:  4.40 / 2.50e

Bootcode Firmware Revision: 0.50

Tape drive:

Product ID:  ULT3580-TD3

Firmware Revision: 73P5

We've had this tape library working fine on:

Win2000 SP4 Adv Server with NBU ES v5.1 MP6

Win2003 R2 SP2 Ent Server with NBU ES v5.1 MP6

Solaris 10 Sparc with NBU ES v6.5.x

Dear All

I change robot type to TLD and in robtest.exe

I can move the media in any slot to drive and another slots.

but when I try to inventory robot by using administration console It's alway failed with error "unable to initialize robot (204)"

and in the windows event viewer I found error message in Application Log "cannot clear slot 22 error".

could you please guide to verify the firmware of this TS3100 and how to upgrade firmware version if necessary.

Best Regards
