Hello

I'm using Netbacup 5.1 MP4. When backup finsish I get following event 1000 in the Application log:

Faulting Application bpbkar32.exe, version 5.1.0.164, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.0, fault adress 0x0000744e.

This happens when the backup of system disk ends. The backup jobs complete with status 0.
This only occour on my Win2003 servers. On my Win2000 servers the application log is clean.

Anyone have an idea?

Hi,
This is same as a known issue noted in document below.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/277884

By this doc, it resolved in 5.1 MP4. Hmm, is it true?

Hi,

As Yasuhisa Itoh pointed you the link,
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277884.htm

You can create two policies, one backup your local drive and the other backup Shadow Copy Components.

Try it out and let us know the result.

Hi,

Just to share some of my test results on the above error. The tests were conducted under NBU 5.1MP3 as well as in MP4 environment.

1. It occur whenever Shadow Copy Components directive is use AND incremental backup is ran (did not happen on Full backup)

2. The workaround mentioned in document 277884 doesn't work (the error occured even if ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES directive is not used).

3. The error message (event id 1000) appear upon bpbkar daemon in the backup client exit (slightly after backup ended)

4. It does matter whether it is MP3 or MP4, the error persists

However, the document 272538 stated that one can use System_state directive for Win2k3 client instead as NBU would translate it into Shadow Copy Components directive. I've tested running with System_State in backup policy for Win2k3 client and no problem encountered. You may want to consider this workaround until a "real fix" arrive.

Just wonder anyone had did any full OS recovery using System_State directive in Win2k3 backup? (Would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this area).

I opened a support case with Veritas. This is a bug that will be corrected in next MP release.

Thanks for updating. Can I have the case ID?
I've logged this issue through HP and the never ending process of performing tests & collecting logs is still going on. With your case id at least I can put a stop (for good) to it.
:)

Thank You

Hello again

No problems. Here is the case-id: 290-176-188

I think this bug is fixed in MP5 although there isn't any Etrack id stating the solution for this bug.

I try patching one of my Win2k3 client to MP5 (without patching Master & media server) just to test whether the client's bpbkar32.exe still exited with the same error. It seems to be ok.

Thanks Chia
Nice update, Thanks mate but did you try backing up ALL LOCAL DRIVES and Shadow components in the backup selection list for a single policy.

Tried backing up Shadow Copy Components with a sub-folder. But not with ALL LOCAL DRIVES directive.

Strange, it's quite consistent at my site.
The error occur at the client end and can be seen in the Event Viewer.
Strange thing is that it only occur after a incremantal backup with filelist consisting of Shadow Copy Component AND at least a drive (or sub-directory).
