File read failed (13)

I have a new server that I have just added to and existing policy. When the policy runs all others servers finish except for the newly added. I receive a file read failed (13). I have been reading multiple tech articles and most point to looking at the bpbkar log file to get an idea of what might be going on. Only problem is I cannot find this log. I have went in on the client and created the bpbkar directory and then ran the job, but no log file is generated. Could someone shed some light on what might be the problem. Am I not enabling the log correctly? I have read through the Troubleshooting manual but am fairly new to this.

you could switch off the snapshot option temporarily, or change it to "Disable snapshot & continue", within the Master server Client Attributes/WOFB tab for this client (see below). If client isn't in the list, it'll need adding & would also be using VSP by default instead of VSS.

As far as the errors are concerned, check the bfis log as pdreyer suggests, also look in the Event Viewer on the client for VSS errors.

Did you mean to leave details regarding your error?

Well, anyway, check out this thread that also revolves around exit status 13's:

Pay particular attention to Andy's post.

I had a problem like that,

1) network must be FULL DUPLES
2) look for corrupted file systems   df -hk (linus solaris)
3) umount network mount points

Sorry, Master Server is Windows Server 2003. Client is Windows Server 2008. Both are 32-Bit.

Nic is also set to Auto Duplex on Client.

transferred, bpbkar may not be generated.  Have you increased the cleint read timeout value?  You can set this under the host properties of the master server.

Do get any details when looking at the entries in hte "Detailed Status" tab of the admin GUI?

Could someone please explain to me how to enable a bpbkar log if it is not. I want to make sure that I am doing this step correctly.

I checked the Timeouts and they should be pushed out plenty. The backup is not making it nowhere near the threshold before throwing the error.

On the client, go to <install directory>\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs and create a folder called bpbkar.  NetBackup services must be stopped and restarted using the following commands.  Be sure that no backups are running before stopping the NetBackup services.

Commands:
bpdown
bpup

So I created the bpbkar directory and then cycled the services on the master server. Then tried run the job again and still no bpbkar log file was created. Any other suggetstions?

From your detailed status output, it appears as if your snapshot is failing.  Create a bpfis folder to log snapshot information.

What is your NetBackup master server, media server, and client version?

Andy and pdreyer you were right on the money. After creating the bpfis log and talking to a support technician I found out that VSP is not supported in Windows 2008. Andy your screen shot was exactly what I had to do in our 6.5.3 environment. Thanks a ton guys.
