How to update Suse NBU Client?

jwmcf1

I have two servers with NBU 6.5 client installed.  These are suse servers.  How would one go about updating the NBU client to version 7.0?  The master is a Windows Server.

I have the the 7.0 CLients GA file and I have installed the client fresh on other servers.  Is the process the same to update?  Just extract the GA and then run ./install?

thanks

Just push the client from the master to the client should be fine

Update to Linux client CANNOT be pushed from Windows master!

As usual, thanks Marianne!  I will proceed with the install!

Maybe I should start a new thread, I will still mark your reply as the solution but I ran into the below issue during install.

Well I ran the install script on one of the clients and something did not work correctly.

The client OS is Suse 9 and the previous installed client is Suse 2.6

When I run the install script I dont see the Suse 2.6.16 option, but instead I see the following list:

 Platform Client Options
        -----------------------
         1. HP-UX-IA64
         2. HP9000
         3. INTEL
         4. Linux
         5. Linux-IA64
         6. MACINTOSH
         7. RS6000
         8. Solaris
         9. All UNIX client platforms
         q. quit selecting

No option for Suse2.6.16?  so I instead choose Linux  which I beleive contains the Suse2.6.16 client then I get:

 Platform Client Options
        -----------------------
         1. HP-UX-IA64
         2. HP9000
         3. INTEL
         4. Linux
         5. Linux-IA64
         6. MACINTOSH
         7. RS6000
         8. Solaris
         9. All UNIX client platforms
         q. quit selecting

        Enter Choice(s) [1 - 9] 5

 Linux

        Enter Choice(s) [1 - 9]

I then have to (q) quit and then it displays:

 You have chosen to install:

        Linux

Is this the list you wish to use? [y,n] (y)

So I choose (y) and it reads these binaries and then finishes the install!  But nothing appears to be installed or updated?

Reading client binaries for /usr/openv/netbackup/client/Linux
Linux/
Linux/RedHat2.6/
Linux/RedHat2.6/ftp_to_client
Linux/RedHat2.6/sftp_to_client

.....

..............

If I go to usr/openv/netbackup and check the version it still shows as Netbackup 6.5!

What am I doing wrong?  Does netbackup need to be stopped first? Do I need to go and manually run another script?  I see a install_client script that is extracted.

OOPS ... we forgot a VERY important step: Check Compatibility....

For NBU 6.5, the selection for SLES 9 was Linux, SuSE2.6  for 32- and 64-bit. See p. 52 of NBU 6.5 Compatibility list (  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70729   ).
If we look at the OS compatibility list on p. 37, we see that SLES 9 x86-32 and x86-64 is no longer supported in NBU 7.0. (see Note 6)

Supported 64-bit Linux Client versions for version 7.x can be found in NetBackup 7 Operating System (CL) for Client,Server,Dedupe,OpsCenter,BMR,SAN Client,MSEO:    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648

NBU 6.5 Client is still supported with 7.x Master/media server.

Ahhh, So I guess I will be staying with 6.5.

For my own future knowledge though:  If I was updating a supported version, simply running ./install script should update the client without having to do anything else special, correct?

thanks again!
