hello,

The folder Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\db\images is very big, day after day, it's growing up.

we have 3 types of retentions (first one : 6 days; for the second one : 28 days,  and the third one is for : one year).

The image cleanup job runevery 12 hours. recently, we reduced some back jobs (those with retention of 6 days), but no changes has been observed on the images folder.

could you help please, is there a way to reduce the images size ?

thanks in advance.

The size of the image folder is closly related to the retension choosen. Insted of figthing the image folder size you should ensure you have a process for extending the file system.

On the short range you can choose to compress the image files (option in Netbackup), expire backups or cut down on the retension - including the one year retension.

To enable compression :

Activity Monitor > Host properties > master server > Global Attiributes > compress catalog interval.

Perfectly normal.
Image folder is directly related to amount of files getting backed up each day and your retention levels.

Depending on the size of the environment and retention levels, image catalog size can grow to more than 1TB.

Do not change retention levels just because you are low on disk space on the C-drive.
If your sizing was done incorrectly up-front, add more disk.

NBU Admin Guide I contains a section on Catalog sizing and maintenance and how to move images to new disk.
