LTO4 storageworks 1/8 g2 autoloader backup problem - Netbackup 6.5

Hi,

Nice to meet all of you here, hope i can resolve this problem as soon as possible since HP also coming in to promote dataprotector or else, my client will reject netbackup and go with hp dataprotecter, and that's mean, i'm losing money.

I've installed Netbackup 6.5  on HP-UX IA6, installation all smooth, no problem at all, we are connected to direct attached scsi device with the details as per below;

Autoloader Information Serial Number MXA82110MR Product ID 1x8 G2 AUTOLDR Currently Installed Autoloader Firmware 2.10 / 1.90n Bootcode Firmware Revision 0.60 Autoloader Mode Automatic, Sequential WWide Node Name 500110A00091BE64

Drive Information (LUN) Vendor ID HP Product ID Ultrium 4-SCSI Serial Number HU182328UC Firmware Revision W22W SCSI ID 4 Physical Drive Slot Number 1 SCSI Element Address 1 Autoloader LUN Hosted By Drive Yes Data Compression Yes Interface Type SCSI

When time comes to add all the storage information thingy, i was stucked here. I cant see any configuration for hcart4 inside Netbackup, just hcart3, that's the highest in hcart range. I've tried to downgrade the tape drive capability to hcart3 since that's my only option, but not working.

I refer to the Netbackup HCL and HP EBS Matrix and said inside it all the hardware are supported to run in Netbackup.

I configured everything to be in hcart3 and kick the backup in, but this is what i got;

ok the hcart3 is just a tag - does not really mean it is hcart3 - just a reference.......

I hve LTO4 tape drives as well

they are set up as HCART drives in netbackup ( because I never had any 1's, 2's or 3's)

then when I set up my barcode rules  to bring the LTO4 tapes in as HCART...

so you see my drives are HCART my tapes are HCART (in netbackup)

when backups go to run the software matchs tape type to drive type (HCART to HCART)  they match it loads.

you could make both DLT and they would load.... as far as I have ever been told it is just a label that has to match between tapes and drives.

so go ahead and have the drives HCART3, and the tapes as HCART3 and it would work.

I don't understand what you have done to your drives... and they may really be messing it up.

I would reintall the drives on the server and into netbackup as they first installed and start over.

just make the tapes and the drives match in type.
