Looks like you have a few issues here:

One or more hosts had mismatched EMM Servers.
There were problems getting information on one or more hosts.

I would suggest as a first step adding host file entries on both nodes of your Master for each media server, using both short and FQDN names

Next do the same on your media servers so that they can resolve both nodes of the master plus its virtual name, again using short and FQDN

Finally for now in view of the message above in your output you need to check the configuration / bp.conf of each media server to ensure that they all have the EMM Server specified as the virtual name of the Master Server (zsswmasb) as i am guessing they do not which would be why they do not connect as well as the appraent name resolution issue you are experiencing

Hope this helps

Nayab, can round connect from the master to the media? Can you please try from master server to media > bptestbpcd -client mediaserver and also vmoprcmd -activate_host -h mediaserver.

Have you done any basic troubleshooting?
Like checking if the media server is up?
Like if all NBU services are running on the media server? (NBU and PBX.)

If all of the above are fine, you can test comms with commands in above post.
Use 'bptestbpcd -host <media-server>' as well. Combine with -verbose and -debug to troubleshoot.

I have checked the bptestbpcd on media server self it exit with STATUS = 25

Thanks,

Have you checked that NBU services on the media server are up?

Have you tried to restart services? (including PBX)? Or even reboot media server?

Is there a firewall between master and media server?
If so, talk to firewall admins to see if firewall rules are still in place.

Which OS on media server?
If Windows or Linux, check that built-in OS firewall is turned off.

Have tried restarting the Services but im getting an error

EMM services is for master server or if you have the emm configured on media server. This service by default will be disabled on the media server. What all services running on media server? What is the ouput of bpps?

Please try below steps

nslookup from master server to media server with ip and host name. Does it resolve?

nslookup from media to master server with ip and hostname. Does it resolve?

If any of this doesn't resolve then it is connectivity issue and might need to check with n/w team.

As per Sazz's comment - EMM only runs on the master server. It should not start on a media server.

Please use the following steps to restart services on the media server:

From cmd, go to <install-path>\netbackup\bin. Run:

bpdown -f -v

Once all services are down, confirm with 'bpps' command.

Go to Services.
Stop Symantec Private Branch Exchange.
Start Symantec Private Branch Exchange

Go back to the cmd window and start services:

bpup -f -v

Please post output of commands.

Go back to Services and see if NBU Device Manager is running. This will be proof that media server can communicate with master.

If not, you need to find out what happened that broke comms between master and media server.
Check for hosts entries on master and media server that may have been changed or removed.

If using DNS, verify that forward and reverse lookup is working correctly between master and media server.

Any change on the media server?

If you are install a new media server , you can reveiw the setup steps.

If it's not running after some change,you can try to check the network、DNS/hosts、license.

From each server do the following to the connect server (master > media, media > master)

Ping, traceroute, telnet on vnetd or pbx, see if you can connect.

Are you using DNS or host file? (Try sazz's nslookup)

If the above fail then you have network issue.

Hi Sazz,

I have checked the nslookup ,as i have two Master Servers i have run on both the master servers (LINUX) nslookup is DIG and My Media is Windows Server

Why are you testing connectivity between media server and 2 masters?

The media server can only belong to ONE master server.

find out which master server the media server belongs to and forget about the other master.
Check and verify comms between media server and its (only) master server.

It seems that the Linux servers are not on DNS. So, check hosts entries.

As you see from nslookup that media to master is not resolving and it's connectivity issue that you might need to resolve to progress on this issue. Also as Marianne pointed make sure which master server this media server belongs, it can't belong to both.

Hi All,

The setup is like we have two Physical Master servers ACTIVE - PASSIVE called MASB1 and MASB2

and we have the HA services running on a Virtual Server MASB which means at a time one server will be active and media server belongs to that particular server i have checked the File--> Change server there it has MASB entry alone and now i can see MASB2 is in active state and tried the above command it gave same result.

Checked the /etc/hosts files both master and media side has entries but still no luck.

Thanks,

Nayab

So, you have ONE clustered master server consisting of 2 physical nodes where only one node is active at any point of time.

Concentrate troubleshooting and connectivity tests on the current active node.
You can only test connectivity from the 2nd node when NBU is running on that node.

Please run these commands from the active node and post output:

nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

nbemmcmd -getemmserver

Mark problematic media server in the output.

Please find the output of the above commands.

Hi Mark ,

I have made the host entires and they are able to resolve each other but the problem is still exists when i am trying bptestbpcd its ending with EXIT STATUS 25 on NPM1 self :(

Yeah what you have said is right i have checked the bp.conf for one of my media server MEDB1(LINUX) it has a line mentioned as EMM server = ZSSWMASB but i am not able to bp.conf in my NPM1(Windows 2008) is it under Netbackup ??? or somehwere else.

Thanks,

Nayab

We see the following for Windows media server:

bsswnpm1
        ClusterName = ""
        MachineName = "bsswnpm1"
        LocalDriveSeed = ""
        MachineDescription = ""
        MachineFlags = 0x1
        MachineNbuType = media (1)
        MachineState = not active (4)
        MasterServerName = "zsswmasb"
        NetBackupVersion = 6.5.4.0 (654000)
        OperatingSystem = windows (11)

Please go back to my suggestion to restart NBU on this media server:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/media-server-not-connected-master-server#comment-8743...

Please show us output of all the command as you run them.
After bpup, check running services with bpps.
Post this output as well.

When all services are up and running, create bpcd log folder on this media server.
Next, run the following on the master:

bptestbpcd -host bsswnpm1 -verbose -debug

Please show us output of command as well the bpcd log.
