According to your other post you are migrating from a NAS filer to a Windows filer?

As per my advice in that post, best is to take backup for the NAS filer as a CIFS share on your Windows media/master server.
Specify the backup server as client and UNC path in Backup Selection.

You can then restore to Windows File server.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

How about if we want to change the H/W vendor like from NetApps to EMC or others.

With Warm Regards

Different vendors have different NDMP protocol, so NDMP backup can only be restored to same vendor filer.

Technically the NDMP protocol is a "Standard."  It's the OS and Filesystem underlying to each NAS that is different.  NDMP is the bridge to those differences.

However, you are spot on as always in your advice at least contexually. ;)
