Netbackup Server Name Change

Braker19

An administrator I work with is running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Netbackup 7.5.  He renamed the server and tried to upgrade to 7.6 but it didn't work so he removed Netbackup and now it will not re intall.  When it gets to the point in the installation of creating the database it fails (NBDB.exe).  I'm  looking for steps to remedy the problem the admin created.  Thanks for the help!

make sure \program files\veritas is gone (unless you have any other products installed!)

HKLM\Software\Veritas\ gone (again unless you use anything else)

Worth checking through Symantec in the above locations too and then double check

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services for any NetBackup ones

Do be careful what you do as you can do harm if you just go deleting all registry keys!

Also, if you redicted any parts of NetBackup like the logs or catalog / images then tidy those up too

If he has uninstalled then he will need to make sure everything has been cleaned up properly .. file system and registry .. before re-installing.

Having said that .. unless he has a Symantec approved specialist do the rename for him then he will not be able to do a calalog recovery on that server .. he would have to just start afresh.

You cannot just rename a master server without proper catalog manipulation being performed by a specialist ..to get the catalog you would need to have it at the old name first .. but that depends on exactly what was done during the rename as it could be in an almost unrecoverable state now.

Please tell us more of what was done if you need the catalog recoevring .. if not then just clean it up properly before the installation

Thanks Mark.  We only need to install Netbackup, we're not concerned with recovering catalogs.  Can you please elaborate on cleaning it up properly.  Any steps you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
