Netbackup restore to Solaris media server

rake1596
Level 2

Hi,

I am doing a test restore of /etc to a temporary directory on a Solaris 10 Media Server (NBU 7.0). The restore seems to work as expected but I receive a message stating that although 15338 files have been restored successfully only 15315 were actually restored!

13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] received string: (15335 236430 0 0 0 0 562 /etc/zones/SUNWdefault.xml)
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] received string: (15336 236433 0 0 0 0 777 /etc/zones/SUNWtsoldef.xml)
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] received string: (15337 236436 0 0 0 0 262 /etc/zones/global.xml)
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] received string: (15338 236438 0 0 0 0 287 /etc/zones/index)
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] received string: (EXIT STATUS 0)

13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] waited for full buffer 139 times, delayed 365 times
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] sent 15338 directories/files to client <SERVER>
13:52:28 (771569.001) [11279] Exit_shm status = 0
13:52:28 (771569.001) INF - TAR EXITING WITH STATUS = 0
13:52:28 (771569.001) INF - TAR RESTORED 15315 OF 15338 FILES SUCCESSFULLY
13:52:28 (771569.001) INF - TAR KEPT 0 EXISTING FILES
13:52:28 (771569.001) INF - TAR PARTIALLY RESTORED 0 FILES

As you can see 15338 files were sent but only 15315 were successfully restored by TAR according to the output which has surprised me.

Ive been through the log and can't see anything which would explain this so im presuming everything is correct but if someone could explain where the missing 23 files have gone it would be appreciated. Ive noticed this on other restores so presume its normal behaviour but until now never questioned the reasoning behind it.

Thanks.

Please post the restore log as attachment?

You will find it under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/<user>/logs  on the server where you started the restore from.

Were there any files in the temp folder (maybe from a previous restore attempt)? Did you choose to overwrite existing files?

Please also ensure that you have tar log enabled on the destination client for detailed troubleshooting.

Usually the clue is here: sent 15338 directories/files to client <SERVER>

If it does not have to create any directories then this is why it shows the descrepancy

If it ends in a 0 status it should have restored everything

The log Marianne refers to will list the ones the "already exist" and most likely these will be directories rather than files

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately the Netbackup Master is a Windows server to which I have no access.

The reply makes sense in all honesty but I (well the storage guy) also restored the /opt directory and that restore stated:

'Successful - TAR RESTORED 15030 OF 15030 FILES SUCCESSFULLY'

I'll remove everything from the /etc restore directory and try again - hopefully with no directories already being created it will restore everything as expected.

Thanks again for your swift response...

Where was the restore started from?

If you are using Windows Admin Console on your desktop, the restore log will be saved on your desktop.
