New twist on a differential backup...

Hey, all.

I have a bit of a unique situation here.

Our business demands that we do full backups every night. We're using NetBackup 6.5.3 for this to do D2D2T backups - both the disks are on our EVA8000 SAN, the first is on FC disks (FAST and pricey), the second is on FATA disks (Slow and quite cheap) and then of course tape. The issue is the second set of disks - we've come to a point where we're regularily exceeding the IOP capability of the disk group.

I have 4 servers that have a huge amount of data that we need to transfer from server to backup disk - I think I've found a way to limit how much data we actually need to transfer. I'd like to maintian an image of these servers on a media server - every night, NetBackup would sync this backup copy or image with teh production server, then once synced send that off to tape. Is there such capability in netBackup?

Thanks,

Ron Sokoloski

Ron,
Have you investigated the 'Synthetic Fulls' option?
You get the benefit of a Full backup but only have to do the work of an Incremental.

That sounds like it would be exactly what I'm after, David. Thanks for the tip!

(I've been assigned to help with our backups, but not had a lot of training with NetBackup)
