Hi all
We have Oracle 10G and 11G and is getting protected via NetBackup 7.0.1 backup destination is LTO 4 Tape. Previously my DBA used to backup the DB and used to store into native disk from where we used to backup the same into tape media.
Later on after procuring Oracle lic we enabled RMAN backups (same script which DBA used to do for Disk based backups) DBA requested us to restore the backup pices into any system and give those backup pices to him so he can proceed with further restoration. He doesn't wants NBU to restore directly.
As far as i've read , if Hot backup is enabled we can restore the Hot DB directly (Correct me if i'm wrong). Is it possible to restore only backup pices to any other directory where Oracle is not deployed and we can then give DBA those directory dumped??

As your DBA requested you to restore the backup pices into any system that means
its a old file level backup for netbackup .....
so you can restore it normally no need to install Oracle software ...

To RMAN netbackup is only a transport path providing storage (aka a media manager layer). All control lays in the hand of the DBA. He must tell RMAN what the want to do. If the wan't the flat files back, let him restore them with RMAN.

Restoring from a hot backup is the task for a Oracle DBA. He (should) know the syntax of RMAN and the state of the database (in recovery mode, mounted, not mounted etc etc). He/she is also trained in using Oracle, are you
Here are some RMAN restore examples for you:
