Could you please answer follow questions for me? Tks

1.What's the difference of "VRTS NETBACKUP OPTION LIBRARY BASED TAPE DRIVE 6.5 XPLAT STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S" and "VRTS NETBACKUP OPTION SHARED STORAGE OPTION FOR TAPE 6.5 XPLAT STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S"? Now we have two IBM TS3500 for tape backup. If we have 10 unix servers need to do os backuup by TS3500, does it mean I need 10 library based tape drive licenses and 10 shared storage option for tape?

2.If we use IBM TS3500 with SAN connection, do we need media server?

3.What's the difference of "VRTS NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE CLIENT 6.5 WIN TIER 3 STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S" and "VRTS NETBACKUP STANDARD CLIENT 6.5 XPLAT STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S"?

4.We have one unix server which runing oracle rac, and we need do OS backup and Oracle backup by IBM TS3500. What we need?

Thanks very much for your help!

LIBARRY BASED TAPE DRIVE (Required for each tape drive in a library)

SHARED STORAGE OPTION FOR TAPE (Required of each tape drive that will be shared with another Mediaserver or Enterprise Client)

You do not need to have the same number of Tape Drive Licenses as SSO licenses.(you can share fewer tape drives)

A shared tape drive is one that will be used by more than one host. SSO is not required for tape drives that are connected to a "dedicated" host even if its in the same library). SSO is the software that make sure two or more hosts don't step on each other and corrupt a tape.

SSO is licensed to the tape drive not the host.

A shared tape drive requires two licenses. (the tape drive license and the SSO license)

Each host requires either a Enterprise Media Server License or an Enterprise Client License.

The Enterprise Client License also includes San Mediaserver, Advanced Disk Options(Snapshots) and other bells and whistles.

3.What's the difference of "VRTS NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE CLIENT 6.5 WIN TIER 3 STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S" and "VRTS NETBACKUP STANDARD CLIENT 6.5 XPLAT STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S"?

Each server that gets backed up with Netbackup requires either a Enterprise Client license, or a Standard Client license.

If the client is backing up over the LAN, then get a standard client license.  If the client is backing up over a SAN, then get an Enterprise client license.  Both the standard and enterprise 6.5 client licenses include the encryption client and bare metal restore feature.

The enterprise client license is also licensed by tier level.  For Windows and Linux, tier levels are determined by the number of processors.  For UNIX, tier levels are determined by model type.

4.We have one unix server which runing oracle rac, and we need do OS backup and Oracle backup by IBM TS3500. What we need?

Each unix server running Oracle rac, would require a netbackup client license.  If you want to perform Oracle RMAN backups using Netbackup, then each server would also require a database and application pack license to enable the Netbackup Oracle agent.  This license is also licensed by tier level.
