Restoring NetBackup 6.5.6 Master server

First of all, I know this is probably a duplicate forum entry but I've spent hours searching and couldn't quite find the exact solution.  So - I apologize in advance!

Yesterday, system files on my Windows Server 2008 installation of my NB 6.5.6 Master/Media server corrupted, killing the server - Thank you Microsoft!! angry  Before it completely failed, I was able to copy critical items from the C drive to another server - the C:\Program Files\Veritas folder was one of them.

I've since formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows Server 2008 R2 (The server name is different, by the way) and NetBackup 6.5.6.  Is there any way to get my backup Policies "imported" from the backup of my old Veritas folder, by chance?  I could honestly care less about everything else.  I just don't want to have to recreate all those darned policies! smiley  Ok... The Catalogs would be nice too, I'll admit it, but I'm more concerned about the Policies right now.

Thank you so much!   I sincerely appreciate the help!

Heath

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\db\class\

Hereunder you should have a directory for every policy. The files can be copied by hand. But do a consistency check afterward !.

Good luck with the master server resurrection.

Best Regards

Awesome!!!! Thank you Nicolai! That worked like a charm.  Guess I'll dig into restoring the catalog now.  Not looking forward to that, at ALL!

Thanks again,
Heath

The is a flaw in your plan: in case of master server disaster recovery its hostname should remain unchanged since it is an trribute of NBU catalog records.

Have a look at this technote http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH32599

Also there's a bunch of TNs on master server migration
