Slow Enterprise Vault backups

For those with NetBackup and Enterprise Vault, how is your performance? We are seeing ridiculously slow throughput close to 900kb/sec. At this rate our backup job takes 5 days to finish. Our Evault is 8.0 SP2 and stores size is close to 1.5TB. We are using Netbackup 6.5.4 with Evault agent. Backups are going to VTL. Our policies are setup per http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/329620.htm as folloes:

1. 
   SQL Policy running a Full backup of the FingerPrint DB as well as FSAReporting DB and Audit DB.
2. EV Policy running a Full backup of the EV_OPEN_PARTITIONS and EV_INDEX_LOCATION.
3. EV Policy running a Full backup of EV_DIR_DB and EV_MONITORING_DB.

Any and all ideas welcome.

Have you enabled Collections on your Vault partitions?
Not very strange it backups are slow when there is very large number of small files to backup.

Using Collections you can collect files due to rules and make 1 or more large file(s) to backup making backup more effective. 

PS!! remember to tune NBU buffer size also.
