Starting backup job from 6.5 client to 7 Master Server.

Hi,

I have NBU 7.0 as Master and MEdia Server on Solaris 10(64bit).

I have a client of RHEL 5 (32bit) nad I have installed client 6.5.

The problem is that when I am starting backup from Server side it was through (i.e backup completes).

But when I start from client end the backup fails, with no errro.

Thanks.

You need to define a backup window for the User schedule to allow this kind of backup.

How are you starting backup from backup?

If bpbackup, did you add '-L <logfile>'?

Process flow is a bit when requests are initiated from client.

Please check comms with master with 'bpclntcmd -pn' on client.

Check bprd on master to see if connection request is received and how client's IP is resolved to hostname.

Hi,

Below is the out put of 'bpclntcmd -pn' on client :-

expecting response from server htbkpsrv
edtshare edtshare 10.1.0.23 38143

And I am tyring the below command for backing up data from client side

./bpbackup -p EditServer_RHEL5_Policy_Test -s EditServer_RHEL_Full_Sch -L /log/log -S htbkpsrv -t standerd -f /tmp/*

What type of schedule is 'EditServer_RHEL_Full_Sch' ? You can only initiate User type schedules from a client.

Automatic type schedules can only be started from the master with 'bpbackup -i ...'

Extract from Commands manual:

"On master servers:
The -i option of bpbackup starts an immediate manual backup of a client. The
bpbackup option is available only to the administrator on the master server. It is
equivalent to when you start a manual backup from the NetBackup Administration
Console."

Extract from manual regarding -s:

"Names the schedule to use for the backup. If it is not specified, the NetBackup
server uses the first user backup schedule it finds for the client in the policy
currently in use."

Hi

I am now using the below command:-

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin

./bpbackup -f backup_list -L /log/log -p EditServer_RHEL5_Policy_Test -s Manual_sch

Where backup_list is a file with the entry of "/tmp".

In the log file the following were the out pit:-

14:35:29 Initiating backup
14:35:33 INF - Server status = 199
14:35:33 INF - Backup by root on client edtshare using policy EditServer_RHEL5_Policy_Test, sched Manual_Sch:operation not allowed during this time period

Thanks

Hi,

I have already defined a policy with a user backup schedule and Client details.

I am unable to undestand the meaning of  "backup Windows".

Thanks.

Hi ,

I got u .

You were talking about the schedule time.

I have provided all time in the window.

And below is the out put.

15:06:29 INF - Beginning backup on server htbkpsrv of client edtshare
15:06:29 INF - Server status = 0
15:06:33 INF - Backup by root on client edtshare using policy EditServer_RHEL5_Policy_Test, sched Manual_Sch:the requested operation was successfully completed

Thanks
