What machine are you starting the restore (eg, master, media etc) - Try a different machine
Remove the ALT_RESTORE file, does the backup then run (ok, it may fail due to wrong copy, but does it behave differently)
Is this new system
Have restores worked before
OS type of machines eg, master = xx, media == yy AND version of NBU on each machine
What has changed recently, if this was working, some thing has changed
try running a backup from the command line of the server you are running the restore from, does it work
( bpbackup -i -p <policy name> -s <schedule name> )
