I'm getting a status code 98 while attempting to import an LT03 tape. NB 7.1.0.4, using ACS. According to the GUI tape is in the library:

07/30/2012 09:20:20 - Error bptm (pid=14138) error requesting media, TpErrno = Robot operation failed
07/30/2012 09:20:20 - current media <tape id> complete, requesting next media ACS_5:NetBackup:<tape id>
07/30/2012 09:51:15 - Info bptm (pid=14138) EXITING with status 98 <----------
07/30/2012 09:51:15 - Error bpimport (pid=14132) Status = error requesting media (tpreq).
07/30/2012 09:51:15 - Error nbjm (pid=6761) NBU status: 98, EMM status: The media server reported a system error
07/30/2012 09:51:16 - end Import; elapsed time 1:04:16
error requesting media (tpreq)  (98)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Is ACS_5 a media server? Which OS on media server?

Are all NBU processes (including acsd) running on media server?

Please show us output of all of the following (if you don't want to show actual media is, please replace with something like A00001:

In ACSLS:
qvol <media-id>

On NBU master:
nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>

On media server:
tpconfig -l

(If we know OS on master and media server, we can provide paths to commands)

Please also use robtest om Media Server ACS_5 to test mount/dismount of tape. See TN http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH31526

Scroll down to section 4 for instructions:
4.2.3  Command to Mount a Volume
m 000040 0,0,0,2

4.2.4  Command to Dismount a Volume
dm 000040 0,0,0,2 f
