Hi experts.

The System Admin is upgrading all clients to 7.5.0.4, but I notice that the following processes are running at all times in all hosts clients:

    root 1237014       1   0   Feb 28      -  0:01 /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vnetd -standalone
    root 2756726       1   0   Feb 28      -  0:02 /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd -standalone

Is this ok or normal in this version?

NetBackup-AIX53 7.5.0.4

Perfectly normal.

Each connection attempt will spawn a new bpcd process, same as multiple backup streams will generate multiple bpbkar processes.

Multiple processes are explained in Appendix A of Troubleshooting Guide.

vnetd and bpcd background processes are explained in this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH181388

7- Note: as of NetBackup 7.x  bpcd and vnetd are started in standalone mode  via NetBackup Startup Script "S77netbackup "
which reside in /etc/rc2.d   the script contains the followng commands

                bpcd -standalone
                vnetd -standalone

when NetBackup 7.x shutdown during system shutdown ;   NetBackup script "K01netbackup "  which reside in /etc/rc0.d will terminate

      both bpcd and vnetd using the following commands;

          bpcd -terminate

          vnetd -terminate

Thank you.

But I notice also, that when a backup is triggered another process of bpcd starts and ends when the backup finished.

Is this normal also?

I guess that should be bpbkar  not the bpcd...
