No, it doesn't!

In one case, there's only the above question repeated, and no answer. In the other case, even the subject is different.

Still, any real help will be appreciated!

What files are giving this error message?

Have just checked our 'Problems Report' & the instances that are coming up with this error can be explained (for us) as follows:

1) *.nsf (Lotus Notes d/b files) - database files (generally?) cannot be backed up directly without appropriate agent

2) *.log - some log files only affected. The only reason I see here is that they are being written to when NB wants to copy them.

The latter example may explain why you are getting this error unless/until you move the affected file to the master where it isn't being accessed by some other application. This is where the WOFB (Windows Open File Backup ) comes into play & VSS (Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service) or VSP (Veritas Volume Snapshot Provider) is utilized.

It may because of varied reasons..

1)File is being used by another process

2)%systemroot% is backed up by system_stat backup ..so if u are backing up c:\ data is not recognized

3) if you are using webserver or mail server backup as file system backup may be your webserver / mail server is appending the logs to log file hence cant be backed up

4) Error with OS

Try the following and Let us know !

1. try to disable open file Backup  and check ( Master Server Properties->Client Attrivutes-> WIndows Open file Backup)

from Provious DOC  !

1) Simply exclude the problem file, but only if it has been agreed that the

file isn't critical for audit purposes (always get management sign off

before excluding *any* file). In your case, apply an exclusion (to the

client) of "F:\folder\folder\D*_*_*x*.log" (remember - always try to get the

best wildcard pattern that matches the least number of your problem file(s),

*but* doesn't also cover (and thus exclude) too many other non-problem

files).

....or...

2) Shutdown the app (or service) that is writing the data or log file.  You

use bpstart_notify and bpend_notify for this, see the manual(s).  This way

the app/service is shutdown before the backup starts, and started again

after the backup completes.  This is my favourite approach.

....or...

3) If you can't use option 2 *and* the exclude from option 1 covers too many

other files (e.g. a collection of logs in one folder), then I use a

bpstart_notify script to move all the "old", and thus closed, log files to

another folder so that they get secured/backed-up because they no longer

exist in the folder that has the exclusion from option 1.  What I mean is, I

move all the closed file to another folder.  The exclusion still ensures

that the one or two locked files are excluded, but because the

It just depends how important your files are ;).  Most of the time it's a

simple option 1.  *BUT* always first check with your friendly neighbourhood

technical application support team.  Never, and I mean *never* ever exclude

a file just because you want to.

1) When I search that few files & fillter it by "DataAccessed". It does not shows that files was being used at that particular time of backup. User has confirmed nobody opening that files. The backup jobs was running throughout weekeend on weekly basis.

2) There are various type of files which being listed as "Data Is Invalid" and not backup ;  from *.xls; *.ppt; *.doc ; *.jpg etc...

3) we are not using webserver or mailserver backup

4) This is backup from Net App Storage; I believe there was no issue with the OS

5)  We did installed Symantec Antivirus on that NET APP Box;And it was enabled all the time (Even During Backup) -- Will it be affected?

6) There are different files not being backup with this particular Error on every week FULL Backup Copies;(For Example this week File A.xls not backup from A Folder; next week might be file ABX from folder X and so on...)   I dont think exclude list using bp_notify will be the right way to do that. Besides; Some of those files were critical & must be backup!
