Not much to go on here. Have you tried the "knowledge base" search engine or Google?

Since you don't have any real data to present, here is something you can try and maybe get back to us about what is going on.

1. Verify the pbx_exchange and nbemm are running
2. Run the tpconfig -d or vmquery -a to verify the EMM server is active and accepting new connections.

This data came from the NetBackup Troubleshooting Guide.

4.i found that there is a red light blinking on the HBA card of master server. all the others are only green light on steadily. what does this mean? A bad cable or a bad card? or even bad port of the switch?

What hardware is your master server sitting on?  Sounds like a local problem with your HBA.  The data you present show all your drives to be down.  What library are you working with.  Can you communicate with your media servers? What operating systems are you master/media servers?  These are important details to assist in troubleshooting your NetBackup problems.

Let us know and we will see what we can do, also, when do you see the message "unable to connect to EMM server"

are you upgrading the software? I recently did and got the same error, was stumped for a while until i realized that the pre-install steps have you deactivate the media servers, check under host properties and make sure they are activated.

Sometimes there are problems with the EMM server when a catalog backup is running.

My master server is a HP proliant ML530, a windows 2003 enterprise edition system. Library is a HP MSL6000 with 2 tape drives. I can access the master server without any problem, the OS is ok.

I have 2 media servers running SUN Solaris 5.7 on which play DB provider roles in a software system. I also have another media server running windows2003, and the master server itself is a media server too. The whole SAN system ran with no problem for a little more than one year, until 2 weeks ago.

I did not try to upgrade Netbackup.

I try to check the "activity moniter","device moniter" and "storage unit", the error code 77 comes out.

I checked the HBA card's manual today and found that the red light's blinking means the card is in a normal status.... Also I exchanged another fiber channel cable and made no difference.

I think it a software problem... could anyone help? Thanks a lot..

I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to invest in this problem. I suggest you contact symantec support.

New progress!

I had a HP call in and found that there was one tape drive not functioning. Now I have new drive installed. I restarted the backups on the other drive and they are ok now. but on the new drive i can only run backups of windows system. I cannot add the other 2 Solaris system server into the new drive in Netbackup. Also, on the master server i can see a service "Netbackup Vault Manager" always down by itself, what does this mean?

Thank you guys for your help!
