VMware backups - next step after zoning datastore to backup host

sclind

I am working towards setting up my first VMware backup policies.  I understand the datastores from the Linux ESX server will also have to be presented to the Netbackup backup host.  In my case the backup host is also the media server (as recommended).  The media server is Windows 2008 R2.

I know we'll have to run  the diskpart automount disable and scrub commands before datastore is zoned to the media server (otherwise the data is at risk).

But are the other steps to be taken on the media server after that (mapping drives or whatever)?  Or will I be ready to start creating the backup policy after the datastores is zoned to the media server?

Make sure to follow Setting global limits on the use of VMware resources. Also check out the best practices. Other then that, get zoning setup and policies configured.

I have reviewed all the doc and the links above and *believe* I have the policy setup correctly.

From the Clients tab I was able to browse into Vmware for a list of clients to select so that is working OK.

However - when I run the policy it always ends status 4239:

I have not been able to proceed past this.

The LUNs are presented to the media server.  I built the policy by selecting it from a list presented by Vmware so I dont know how it  can say it can locate the VM.

FYI - I have posted and update yesterday and today but they are queued up for moderator approval.  Not sure why that is.

Sorted. See it happen frequently - usually with new members, but also due to content. Maybe something in the content that the spam filter dislikes? A good reason, potentially, to post logs as txt attachments?

I had mistakenly specified a VMware server list under the Advanced Attributes button onthe VMWare tab.  When I blanked this out my 4239 error went away.
