VmWare Policy Timout Error

Hello Forum,

I have a problem browsing the clients tab in my VmWare policy.

I added the "disableIPResolution" REG_DWORD=0 registry key on the vmware backup host to no avail. (tried to add it on the master server as well)

The backup itself does run fine, but I want to be able to browse for clients as well.

The strange thing is that on the vmware backup host no bpVMutil log is written at all!? The folder exists but is empty.

There is a bpVmutil log on the master server, but with no useful information:

Hi,

Which server is listed as the VM backup host in the policy?

Try to clean out the Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\online_util\fi_cntl\ folders on both your master/media.

Then run bpVMutil.exe 0 0 NONE on both servers.

That should rebuild the xml files by connecting to vCenter.

Then try browse the VMs again.

HI Riann, I listed the media server as th VM backup host in the policy. Tthe bpVMUtil.exe on the media server/vmbackup host was done in 30 seconds. The bpvmutil on the master server took very long, and there is nothing in "C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\online_util\fi_cntl" after the command finished! I think it ran into the timeout as well. Here is the bpvmutil log from the master server: 09:35:17.627 [25528.13336] <2> logparams: C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\bpVMutil.exe 0 0 _NONE_ 0 09:35:17.627 [25528.13336] <2> bpVMutil main: cmd = 0 ESXMount = 0 ESXserver = _NONE_, jobId = 0, flags = 0 09:35:17.643 [25528.13336] <2> copy_preferred_network_list: ../../libvlibs/nbconf.c.1796: pseudo PN for : 09:35:17.643 [25528.13336] <2> logconnections: BPRD CONNECT FROM 10.11.8.17.56742 TO 10.11.8.30.13720 fd = 464 09:35:17.752 [25528.13336] <2> bpVMutil main: Saving guests to C:\Windows\TEMP\VMutl-25528437464117643336000000000-a13336 09:35:17.752 [25528.13336] <2> get_VM_names_VMware: read for 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> get_VM_names_VMware: get_vSphere_VMs returned 158 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> get_VM_names for failed with 158: bpVMutil 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> bpVMutil main: save_guests returned 0 for 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> Ending cached = 1, sched 0: bpVMutil 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> bpVMutil main: EXIT STATUS 0: the requested operation was successfully completed 10:00:59.027 [25528.13336] <2> get_VM_names_VMware: get_vSphere_VMs returned 158 10:00:59.027 [25528.13336] <2> get_VM_names for failed with 158: bpVMutil 10:00:59.027 [25528.13336] <2> bpVMutil main: save_guests returned 0 for 10:00:59.027 [25528.13336] <2> Ending cached = 1, sched 0: bpVMutil 10:00:59.027 [25528.13336] <2> bpVMutil main: EXIT STATUS 0: the requested operation was successfully completed What worries me is: 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> get_VM_names for failed with 158: bpVMutil 09:45:44.722 [19288.22240] <2> bpVMutil main: save_guests returned 0 for Did a search on that but found nothing. As I said the "disableIPResolution" reg key is in place on the master server as well. Checked name resolution to vcenter in both directions, that was ok too. Volker
