Hello,

it is avaliable in 7.6 even in earlier verison.

but for that you need to have the netbackup installed and configured as a normal phyiscal client, if you would like to do the restore directly to the VM, and this netbackup in VM only be used at the time of Restore not for backups..

alternatly you can also do the restore to the any other host which is having the netbackup installed & configured( may be media server or some other proxy host) and copy the files to the final detination( VM)\

hope this helps..

Refer VMware admin guide for netbackup  page number 157 for more details

As per Nagalla's excellent advice, the manual is your friend.

Please take your time and start reading from the beginning of the manual.

Read through the Introduction and Overview chapters to understand how everything fits together and then read up about requirements (including licensing) before going on to configuration steps.

Hi,

Here is a simple example for single file restore, hope help speed up your practice, more further info, as others said, please refer to the nbu admin guide for vmware.

1. Create a VMware policy. and notice the following:

1.1) Make sure that "Enable file recovery from VM backup" in VMware tab in policy.

1.2) Assume the client name is "windows 2008R2-vm"

2. Run your backup.

3. Restore single file from backup

3.1) Install nbu client software on any hosts, including your backe up vm, to where you want to restore single file. assue the hostname of the nbu client is "testmachine"

3.2) In BAR, choose "windows 2008R2-vm" as source client for restores.

choose "testmachine" as destination client for restores.

choose VMware as policy type for restores.

then choose Normal backups as Restore type.

3.3) at last, choose files you want, and restore them. similar to normal file/folder restore process.

Dear Walker, Will it work in VMhost case as all backup are happening via VMhost and client is not installed on VMs? Should we need to check mark the "Enable file recovery from VM backup" for file recovery now onwards? One more question Should we turn the VM off for file revory as well?

if you are referring as VADP , yes it do work..

Should we need to check mark the "Enable file recovery from VM backup" for file recovery now onwards?

if you are referrring the option in Policy VMware tab.. yes you need to select it

One more question

Should we turn the VM off for file revory as well?

VM does not needs to off for file recovery.

PLEASE do yourself a favour - take your time and read through the NBU for VMware manual.

The Introduction and Overview pages REALLY explains how everything fits together and why NBU agent is not needed in the VM.
There are also nice diagrams that explain how the process works.
