Win2K3 Install: Failure to properly detect Dell PV-132T. "Unable to determine robot type. The robot device does not support serialization."

All,

We have a Dell PowerVault 132T Tape library with 2 LTO-2 drives in it (~24 slots) on a Windows 2003 Server platform.  This is a known-good library with known-good drives, since we have Backup Exec installed on the same server using the same robot/library and it works properly.

We need to roll-out NetBackup and decommission Backup Exec, but when we perform the initial install of NetBackup and go through the wizards for configuring the tape library, while it does detect the devices to some extent, it detects them improperly.  The wizard displays the devices properly (1 robot, 2 drives), but beside the robot there is a "Limitations" indication that states "Unable to determine robot type. The robot device does not support serialization."

From this point forward, the robot library fails to perform any operations properly after completing the wizard.  Additionally, the robot shows up as TLD(0), which according to the drop-down is  a DLT library type, when in actuality since LTO is a half-inch format, I believe this should be TLH(0) -- but the drives themselves properly display as HCART types.

We have installed the latest IBM tape drivers and Windows recognizes the devices properly in device manager (and again, this tape library works flawlessly under Backup Exec on the same machine).  We're not sure how to correct this error and get the library working properly.  Please assist.

Thank you, and kind regards.

Have you disabled BE services while trying NBU?
Also stop and disable Removable Storage manager.
The robot type for your library must be TLD - see Device Compatibility Matrix.
TLH robots are API robots (a NetBackup robot category in which the robot manages its own media). More info on TLH robots in Device Configuration Guide.

All,

Thank you for the suggestions.  After updating the firmware on the tape drive and re-installing the drivers, it is now working with NetBackup.  Yasuhisa was the closest solution.
