doubt on NB 7.6.0.1 upgrade

susindran_surul

Hi All,

I have upgraded my netbackup version from 7.5.0.4 to 7.6.0.2 version.I could see after upgraded 7.6.0.1 nbemmcmd command output clearly listing LIST_FS_IMAGE_HEADERS="0" & SLP_DSSU_MIGRATION_STATE="1" which means my upgrade completed successfully without any issues.

I could see below nbstlutil list before upgrade is 0 and after upgrade images keep on increaing. Please let us know its normal?

I am bit confused about this nbstlutil command.Could you please help on here.

Befor NB 7.6.0.1 upgrade :-

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
       0
#

After upgrade :-

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
   69128
# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
   69134

Thanks,

Susi.S

"nbstlutil" will display Storage Lifecycle Policies that have any outstanding copies to complete.  For a better idea on what is waiting, enter

nbstlutil report

Backlog of incomplete SLP Copies
In Process (Storage Lifecycle State: 2):
                Number of copies:       9
                Total expected size     8907042 MB

SLP Name: (state)                                 Number of copies: Size:
F-CDW-225-Oracle (active)                                      5     8324455 MB
I-CDW-225-Oracle (active)                                      3       27387 MB
I-CDW-225-Win (active)                                         1      555200 MB

Total:                                                         9     8907042 MB

The number of copies tells you how many SLP copies have not completed, the the SLP Name can tell you what SLP you need to investigate.

Based on what you posted above, you have a large backlog of images that have not completed the entire SLP process.  Did you deactivate the SLP policies ebefore your upgrade?  Did you reactivate them afterward?  Did you make any other configuration changes, such as changing storage unit names, after your upgrade, without changing the SLP's themselves?

I mean below command output displaying value from 0 to some value after upgrade.Symantec is telling there is no issue with those SLP values.I want to make sure everything should be ok on our upgrade.

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
       0
#

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
   69129
#

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l
   69098

I didnt changed any storage.I have deactivated all policies and reactivated after upgrade. Please find the below for SLP report.

We have deactivated all the policies on netbackup & storage unit only.

Please let us know this might be on issue?

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil report

No images to process

Please work through this TN to see if it applies to your situation: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH184142

Hi Marianne,

We cant relate above link with our scenario. We have initated duplication backup and its completed successfully.

I want help on below scenario.

Before upgrade the output of the below command was showing "0".

# /catal/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l

       0

After upgrade the output of the below command shows "69129"

# /catal/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | wc -l

   69129

What does it mean? Is there any significance for the above command and something we should be worried with? It would be great if you could help and clarify. Please let me know if you need more information.

Its looks like SLP which we are seeing as part of upgrade?

I dont think we have created any SLP in our environment,I dont find any SLP policy on our other 7.5.0.4 environment which is not upgraded.

What does it mean?

You need to tell us!

Why are you running the command?

What is the output without wc? e.g.
/catal/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbstlutil list -l | grep " I " | more

The only scenario I can think of is that:

There was no SLP image or all SLP images had been expired before the upgrade, and after the upgrade, you have your SLP initiated again and they start to have SLP-managed images.

If this was not the case, check your upgrade logs (install_trace.xxxx) to see what it has done for your SLP policies (unfortunately, not images). You should be able to see something like:

Unloading "PEM_MAIN"."PEM_SLP" (5 rows)    <== that means you have 5 SLP policies defined
Unloading "PEM_MAIN"."PEM_SLPDestinations" (12 rows)
...
Migrating SLP definitions into the NetBackup relational database.

The OP has not been back in almost 2 weeks....

My guess is that this turned out to be a none-issue.

Hi Marianne,

There was no issue with that command..As per symantec they removed command from 7.6.X onwards. We need to check only phase1 & phase 2 migration status using /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbemmcmd -listsettings -brief -machinename mastername

Thanks for all help here.

There was no issue with that command.

I never thought there was an 'issue' with the command.

I simply wanted to see what is actual output of the command (without merely counting output lines and assuming the number of lines indicates an 'issue').

So, this turned out to be 'non-issue' after all?

Yes its not having any issue. We may close this case.
