how to expire tapes in catalog?

in Catalog/Search, if i list all my tape for the year 2014 it doesn't show any "Data Expiration" column. just a "Date" column.

how does one first check the expiration date of a tape, in catalog, before actually expiring it manually?

if you are looking for specific media, you can look for the date expiry date in GUI--> Media in medias you can find the data expiry date tab.. you can look for this tab to find the last images expire date of that particualr tape.

if you are looking for specific image or list of images , you can run the below command to find the expire date of the images

bpimagelist -backupid <backupid> -U

well that's the thing. i don't know the specific media IDs that were used nor the backup IDs. i just want all tapes used in 2014 to be manually expired.

EDIT: except the 2014 year end backup which i also don't know to which media it went.

Please understand that 'freeing up 20 tapes' means that you have expired valid backups? I have also listed a number of useful reports in your previous post ( https://www.veritas.com/community/forums/grandfather-father-son-tape-rotation#comment-11520331 ) that shows expiration dates (Tape Summary Report with Verbose option selected ) and Tape Written report that will show you which tapes were used on a particular date or period.
