Hello,

Is there a maximum limit of policies supported by netbackup?

Example: 1500 active or more policies in Netbackup Console, is it possible?

Regards

Sebastien

Hi @Seb_AA,

That is a good question Smiley Happy

I have no idea, I've never read anything about this, but with a large number of policies can be difficult to manager Netbackup. I already work in a company some years ago and there at that time they had almost 5.000 policies...Trust me, its not a lie..

They were creating one policy by schedule, for example:

Client Name: Orion -

Daily-Incremental - One policy

Week-Full - One policy

Month-Full - One policy

For only one client we had 3 policies...Now can you imagine with 300 or 400 clients on the same Netbackup Domain? It was unworkable..

So about your question, I dont know, but maybe our VOX collegues can explain or share their experiences as this situation.

Hello,

I trust you, it had to be unmanageable.

thanks you for the response

I have not seen anything regarding maximum policies.

There is however a theoretical and hard limit to number of active jobs.

This is what the Performance Tuning Guide says:

Do not plan to run more than about 20,000 backup jobs per 12-hour period on
a single master server.
See the "Limits to scalability" item later in this topic.

Limits to scalability
Regardless of the size of the master server, the theoretical maximum rate at
which backup jobs can launch is about one job per second. Therefore, a domain
cannot run much more than 43,000 backup jobs in a 12 hour period.
Note: Real world limitations make it unlikely that this theoretical figure can be
achieved.
