The easiest way to bring deduplication to your environment is to deploy an appliance in NetBackup 5000 series. It works with NetBackup 6.5 and higher. You can use your existing media servers and policies. All that you would be doing here is to direct the backups to the deduplication disk pool provided by the appliance.
Later when you upgrade to NetBackup 7.x, you can also do client side deduplication (deduplication closer to the data source so that network bandwidth is used only for unique data which is not yet in the deduplication pool) as well.
