I know there is san media server and san client feature avialable. For san client linux media server is required. What if my media server in on windows. Then I think I would not be able to use san client. But is there any way for windows media server for san backup of client leaving san media server option. Thanks

You are correct - those are your options for SAN backups of a physical client.

SAN Client backing up to Linux or Solaris media server, or SAN Media server where media server binaries are installed on the client.

The only other possible solution is Snapshot Client with offhost backup.

Here you will need supported hardware raid or Veritas Storage Foundation with full mirror snapshot of data volumes that can be presented to a Windows media server for local (SAN) backups.
More info in NetBackup Snapshot Client Administrator's Guide
and NetBackup 7 Snapshot Client (CL)  .
