the way to prevision the storage for deduplication disk pool

1. Here is what I am thinking the way it is: to prevision a big lun in SAN storage, ex, 20TB on NetApp filer to the media server, then Dedup Disk Pool could be created on this lun. am I right?

2. I read a doc, and it says that I can use for instance 4 media servers, and  they all share the same disk pool. If my assumption as above is correct, how could I present the same LUN to these 4 different media server?

3. Does anybody have "step-by-step screenshots" to configure storage server, dedup disk pool and storage unit?

If I can get idea on these questoins, it'd be very helpful for me to understand Dedup configurations. Thank you in advance!

1. Correct.

2. Really? I guess it is not a Symantec doc? Because Symantec docs say that storage must be dedicated to media server.

3. We have the NBU manuals with step-by-step instructions:
NetBackup Deduplication Guide http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5187
NBU Deduplication: Additional Info  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77575

Take your time and read through these manuals.
The key to successful dedupe config is planning....

PS:

Please check Deduplication Supported Operating Systems section of OS compatibility guide that your HP-UX server is supported.

Thank you for your message. 2 follow-up's and a new question:

1. Should this lun be a raw device, or a file system, when I attach it to a disk pool? In terms of using the lun, is this the same to attach it to either Media Server Dedup Pool, or PureDisk Dedup Pool?

2. What I am referring to is the same doc you post as following. In page 86-87, it seems to me that STU-GOLD and STU-SILVER use 4 diff media servers, and the same disk pool. Please correct me.

A new question, what are differences between PureDisk Dedup pool and MSDP? in terms of using them and configuring them?

1. No.
It must be mounted locally as a filesystem. (Have you gone though the documentation as suggested?)

2. Scroll up to p. 85:
The following are the configuration options for a PureDisk disk pool storage unit.

New question: See http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5187  p. 60 & 61.
